I have been loving what people have been creating using The Greetery’s Create a Crate dies. Instead of building a crate, the die cuts have been used as wood paneling, and I had to give the style a try for myself. Today’s card pairs a blue, wood paneled background with snowflakes to create a rustic snowflake holiday card.
To see the video tutorial, use the link below to switch over to my YouTube channel. Otherwise, keep scrolling to see how I put this rustic snowflake holiday card together!
Wood Paneled Background
To start, I ink blended two card panels using three blue Distress Oxide inks. Next, I used the create a crate dies to emboss the wood detailing, then die cut the two ink blended cardstock sheets into a handful of wood panels.

Next, I used Distress Collage Medium to adhere the wood panel die cuts to a blank card panel. I trimmed the excess using my large Tim Holtz shears.

To finish the wood paneled background, I added Nuvo Vintage Drops as rivets.

Snowflakes
To create the snowflakes, I sprayed some Distress Oxide Sprays onto my craft mat, then lightly pressed a card panel into the ink to transfer. As I did not use watercolor paper for this, I did not add any water. I wanted splotchy coverage, so this is the perfect technique for this. I added multiple layers of two colors (Hickory Smoke and Pumice Stone) to get the perfect look.

After drying, I die cut the panel using Spellbinders snowflake dies.

Sentiment
The sentiment was a breeze using a Scallop Circle die from Honey Bee Stamps. I selected a circle large enough to surround my sentiment selected from Catherine Pooler’s Holiday Mix stamp set.
A quick stamp using VersaMark ink, then heat embossing using Recollections Tinsel Embossing Powder and the sentiment was complete.

Card Assembly
Finishing the card was fairly basic. Scotch Foam Tape popped up the greeting, then a bit of liquid glue to adhere the snowflakes around the card panel. I trimmed excess snowflake bits as needed to get everything to fit.

With that, this card is complete! I like the cool colors of this card and the variegated color on the snowflakes.
