What is better than a birthday card? A shaker birthday card! Today, it’s all about the sequins and a birthday card for a sweet little friend.
Today’s card starts with a die cut frame created using Mama Elephant’s Window Cover die. Cut from Gina K cardstock in Lucky Clover, this die cut is the starting point for my card design. Created for an A2 card (my go to card size) it leaves three windows perfect for adding some sequins.
I selected Honey Bee’s Happy Birthday stamp set for my sentiment, as the text fit perfectly within the windows. Placing my card base and frame on my Misty Stamp Tool, I lined up the photopolymer stamps within the windows. After closing the lid and transferring the stamps to the hinged plate, I removed the frame. I then stamped my sentiment using Gina K Amalgam ink.
Returning to the frame, I adhered a piece of Dura-Lar Clear Film to the back using Gina K Connect Glue. The film was cut just smaller than and A2 card (approx 4 1/8” x 5 3/8”). After the glue set, I added Scotch Foam tape to entire back ensuring no gaps in the adhesive. Doing this prevents sequins escaping once the card is completed. I removed the adhesive backing and set the frame aside while I prepared the card base.
Using Little Things’ Once Upon a Time sequins, I poured three small piles of sequins onto the card base, directly over the sentiments. I carefully placed the frame over the card base, taking my time to ensure correct placement.
After looking through my die cut stash, I found a cute elephant to accent the card front. Stamped from Mama Elephant’s Stackable Cuties & dies, this elephant is perfect paired with the frames. I popped up the die cut with 3D foam squares.
Using my Nuvo Aqua Shimmer pen, I added some silver glitter to the elephant ears. As a final touch, I added Nuvo Crystal drops in Ebony Black to the eyes.
The finished card is fun and whimsy, and perfect for the recipient. The accents on the elephant are small, but bring a more finished look to the whole card. The sequins bring a fun flair that all shaker cards have, creating interest and movement to an otherwise stationary card.
