August is a month for celebration at my house. This year, my daughter turns 10 and I can hardly believe it!
We are in full swing of school and extracurricular activities and this week I made good use of my ‘waiting time’. While the kids were at their activities, I was busy coloring previously stamped images (Mama Elephant’s Lunar Animals and Stackable Cuties this week) with my Copic Markers.
Today, I began by using the matching dies to cut the images using my Big Shot die cutting machine. I then selected a few animals for my daughter’s card, and an additional animal for a second card that will go to a friend who also has a birthday this month.
For my daughters card, I decided to create a simple scene for the animals. Using My Favorite Things Mix-Ables Stencil in Cloud and Distress Oxide Ink in Salty Ocean I ink blended clouds onto my card base.
I cut a couple curved pieces of cardstock from Gina K Lucky Clover cardstock, and lightly ink blended some Distress Oxide Mowed Lawn onto the edges, just to add a little dimension.
I adhered the green cardstock to craft foam, then to the card base, thus creating a few hills for the animals to reside.
Using Altenew’s Bold Numerials dies, I die cut ’10’ from Gina K’s Sea Glass cardstock. I used my Tonic Aqua Shimmer pen to add some shimmer before adhering to the card.
I placed the animals around the card, using Gina K Connect Glue to adhere them. Inside, I stamped a sentiment from Honey Bee’s Happy Birthday set using Distress Oxide Picked Raspberry ink. With that, this card was complete!
The second card utilized the same color scheme, but different elements. Using a stencil from my stash and the Picked Raspberry ink I added some horizontal stripes to the card base. I cut two hexagons using The Stamp Market’s Oblong Hexagons dies and Gina K cardstock (Lucky Clover and Sea Glass). Using the Mowed Lawn and Salty Ocean inks, I blended some color along the edges of the hexagons before I glued them together.
I stamped another sentiment from Honey Bee’s Happy Birthday set using Salty Ocean ink, then popped up the sentiment from the card base using craft foam. I added the unicorn and the second card was complete!
These cards were quick and easy to create, due in part to my having completed my coloring earlier this week. It’s not always feasible to take projects with me, but when I know I will have a couple hours wait I make sure I bring something to keep myself busy. This definitely helps the time waiting pass quickly!
What do you do to keep yourself occupied while waiting? I’d love to hear what keeps you busy and entertained, so I can see if it works for me too!
