It’s time for another birthday card! This card, meant for my sister in law, pairs simple sophistication with fun pops of color. Highlighting an alcohol ink background and beautiful hot foiled sentiment, this handmade card is not as difficult as it may appear.
Alcohol ink and hot foiling are a great pairing of techniques, so let’s get started!
Supplies
Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110lb cardstock for card base, 80lb cardstock for die cutting
Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks, Ranger Alcohol Blending Solution and Ranger Yupo Paper
Spellbinders Elegant Occasion Sentiments Hot Plates and hot foil
Glimmer Hot Foil Machine and Spellbinders Platinum 6 Die Cutting Machine
Waffle Flower A2 Layers dies & Lawn Fawn Just Stitching Double Rectangles dies
Striped Embossing Folder
Gina K Connect Glue & Mini Foam Adhesive Squares
Alcohol Ink
Using a pink alcohol ink, Mixative in Gold and Alcohol Blending Solution blend ink thoroughly across yupo paper. For today’s panel, I used a paint brush to create swirls and aid in blending.Â
Dry panel thoroughly.
Hot Foiling
For detailed instructions on Hot Foiling CLICK HERE.
Select sentiment for hot foiling and place on preheated hot foil platform. Turn on timer and build foiling sandwich. After timer has completed, run through die cut machine to finish foiling.
Use coordinating die to create die cut.
Die Cutting and Dry Embossing
Select a pair of Waffle Flower’s A2 Dies to create a frame. The size of your frame will be dependent on the size difference in your selected dies. I prefer to use each die separately (in lieu of cutting entire frame in one pass) as this helps me ensure my frames are centered correctly.
Use Lawn Fawn Just Double Stitching die to create an accent on frame. Trim alcohol ink panel to fit behind frame.
Use embossing folder to emboss an A2 sized card panel.
Finishing
Using liquid glue, adhere frame to alcohol ink panel. Apply foam tape behind alcohol ink/frame panel and adhere to embossed card panel. Use liquid glue to adhere the entire stack to an A2 card base. Pop up sentiment die cut with adhesive foam squares. Finis!
I love how this card turned out! The stripes and stitching create interest on the white background, while the alcohol ink panel and pink foiled sentiment pair beautifully. Utilizing alcohol ink and hot foiling together is a definite win!
