I had so much fun ink smooshing the other day (check out this post for details on how to do it), I had to pull out my inks for some more fun today. This time, I used Distress Oxide inks in Picked Raspberry, Carved Pumpkin and Squeezed Lemonade. I layered my inks, starting with Squeezed Lemonade and finishing with Picked Raspberry, drying the panel between each layer of color. The inks gently mixed, and the oxidation from the use of water is absolutely stunning.
For my sentiment, I utilized the Kindness set from Honey Bee Stamps. This set is great as the stamps have multiple phrases that can be grouped together to create different sentiments for ‘Kind’. I used the ‘Kind’ die along with ‘ness’ for the sentiment on my cards, then stamped the inside with ‘Thank you for your Kindness’.
I carefully placed the ‘kindness’ dies on my panel, using micropore tape to hold them in place while running them through my Big Shot die cut machine. As I removed the die from the panel, I was careful to keep all negative space bits. I gathered all die cut pieces for ‘Kindness’ and set them aside – I will use them on my second card. I glued the panel onto an A2 card base cut from Gina K Kraft cardstock, then gently glued the negative space panels into the card.
For the second card, I started with an A2 card base cut from Gina K Moonlit Fog cardstock. I cut a mat panel from Neenah 80lb Solar White cardstock using a die from Waffle Flower A2 Layers Die set. Using the Wedding Ring Stitch Embossing Folder from Spellbinders, I ran the cardstock through my Big Shot die cutting machine. I glued the panel directly onto the card base.
To add dimension to the die cut ‘Kindness’ from the inked panel, I cut an additional two dies from scrap Neenah 80lb Solar White cardstock. I glued the layers together, being careful not to misplace the tittles. After the glue was set, I adhered the sentiment directly to the embossed panel. To bring additional interest, I added Nuvo Crystal Drops in Party Pink and Simply White.
Both Kindness cards are beautiful. The colorful panel with the sentiment peeking through in Kraft is simple, yet lovely. The inked sentiment on the second card pops over the white, embossed background while the Nuvo drops add an extra dimension keeping the card fun and lighthearted.
I love using one die cut to create two cards. One utilizing the die cut while the other uses the negative space. This is such a great way to stretch your supplies and be more efficient in your cardmaking! Take a look at your dies and see if this technique would work for any of them. Have fun with your creating!
