It’s Day 8 of my 12 Days of Cardmaking Series, welcome! Ink blending and a cover plate die makes today’s merry 2 ways cards quick and easy to create.

Ink Blending

Today, we start with ink blending using Distress Oxide inks. First, Mowed Lawn and Pine Needles over the Mini Pines stencil from Honey Bee Stamps. I use 2 colors here as it creates a bit more dimension to the pattern. Second, and entire panel using Festive Berries and Black Soot to create a victorian appearance.

Die Cutting

Next, comes die cutting using the Catherine Pooler Merry Mini Cover Plate die and both ink blended panels.

To start, I used the plate cut from the red/black panel as a guide to adhere the ‘Merry’ cut from the tree panel. These letters were glued to a card panel of red cardstock, then I carefully removed the red/black panel from around the letters. This method is a great way to get perfect alignment.

To easily adhere the red/black letters into the tree plate, I first placed double sided adhesive across the backside of the plate, then adhered die cut to a panel of cardstock (black). The double sided adhesive is spread across the letter gaps, so letters will be adhered once they are put in place.

Using the outline die (included in Merry Mini Cover Plate die set), I trimmed both card panels.

Next, I used the outline frame of the red/black panel as my base layer and adhered it to a card base.

Then, the black matted panel adhered on top finished up the first card.

Finally, I adhered the red cardstock panel to a white card base to finish off the second.

These merry 2 ways cards are a perfect example of why I like cover plate dies. They are a fantastic way to create multiple cards with minimal waste and effort. I could have easily added in a third card using the unused red/black panel, which I may do later.
