12 Days of Christmas Cards – Day 7

Today’s card has a beautiful snowflake centerpiece, made by layering die cuts in various colors. A beautiful release from Spellbinders, in their November 2019 Die of the Month club.

Die Cutting

Die cut snowflake ‘petals’. For this snowflake, five petals are required – each comprised of three layers. I elected to create each layer a different color, but a monochromatic snowflake would also be stunning.

For layering die cut sets like this, I like to batch die cut. Essentially, cut all pieces in multiple colors, definitely cutting more than I need. I will then either save the extra pieces for a future project, or make additional cards to save for future use.

Glue!

Next comes the batch gluing! I layered all my snowflake petals. My efforts ended with enough supplies for three entire snowflakes.

While snowflake petals dry, prepare your card base. I cut mine from a grey cardstock. In lieu of adding a card panel, I elected to adhere my snowflake directly to the card base, keeping the card elegant and allowing the snowflake to remain the focal point.

After locating the center of my card base, I began adhering my snowflake petals using Gina K Connect glue. I added the arrow-like bits to fill in the sparse area between petals.

A small sentiment stamped in the bottom corner and some jewels and sequins finished off this card nicely.

The subdued color palette of this card is perfect. The snowflake remains a solid focal point, while the sequins appear as frost around it. I love using turquoise in holiday cards, a step away from traditional red and green, it’s a great cool toned look that is still festive.
